Traveling is one of my greatest loves in life whether for business or pleasure. It can be challenging to maintain a healthy diet when in the airport or eating out. I combat that by making sure I always have healthy options in my purse so I never go hungry. Either pack them to take with you or stop by a Whole Foods when you get into town!
Travel Friendly Foods
PaleoKrunch Cinnamon Grainless Granola. While I do not follow a Paleo diet, this granola is golden! Most granolas sold at the store contain more sugar than a candy bar. This granola has no refined sugar, including agave, which is nearly impossible to find. It also has cinnamon which helps regulate blood sugar. If I am not able to eat a healthy breakfast, I will grab a handful of this granola to go with my coffee. Not an ideal balanced breakfast but better than a bagel!
Levity Brew. This company makes a delicious blend of organic coffee, yerba mate tea, green tea, and roasted chicory root in a convenient packet for single cup brew. No equipment required. It gives you long-lasting, focused energy without the crash or the jitters. It's my secret weapon for keeping my brain focused and alert all day.
Justin's Classic Almond Butter. This can be found in Whole Foods across the country. I will pack one packet of the almond butter, a napkin, and an apple in a sandwich plastic bag. I usually eat this while on the plane and the bag serves as my trash bag for the apple core until the flight attendant comes around. They do make several flavors but I get the classic because the other varieties contain more sugar.
Spicy Pumpkin Seeds. Even though I try to make healthy choices when I eat out, the menu can sometimes be limited. I will snack on these by themselves, or sprinkle over a salad for an extra little spice. Pumpkin seeds are excellent sources of zinc (good for immune and skin health), iron, and protein.
Hemp seeds are small but mighty. They are excellent sources of plant-based protein and are high in healthy fats. This brand makes small travel packets that I sprinkle on salads to get an extra dose of Omega 3 heart healthy fatty acids.
Organic Bare Ginger Chews. This is my favorite treat if I have a sugar craving after dinner instead of eating desert. Ginger helps to ease digestion after a meal with just a touch of sweetness to balance out the heat. It is "uncrystallized" versus traditional crystallized ginger that is coated in granulated sugar (i.e. unhappy pancreas).
